Black & white xox.

Black & white xox.

Anyone who knows me (or even if you don't), knows how much I love to wear black -- and better yet, black & white together! I am getting ready to go out of town this weekend, and am putting together some comfortable, but also sophisticated outfits. Most of these pieces are always in style, black jeans, classic white jacket, with a few splurges thrown in there, HELLO thigh-high boots. Mainly, I am so glad DVF started making these lips clutches - lawd! They're fabulous, without being over the top.

Talk about black, white, and glam all over.

Fall into color.

imageIt’s fall! My favorite season of them all (rhyme unintentional). Today I am celebrating the start to this glorious season by wearing the most fall color… orange! For me, orange always seemed like a hard color to wear. But it’s a new season, time to be bold. I’m a big fan of using the ol’ color wheel to find compliments in your wardrobe. I paired my new orange sweater (thanks Joe Fresh) with a royal blue shirt, and funky necklace. I even broke out my fall boots (more celebration).

I’ve had a great week after returning to NYC. After my vacation, I’m remembering all the reasons I love this city. And even better - the weather has been AMAZING, leaving even more fun to be had in terms of fashion!
Some choose to go casual on Friday (I am no stranger to casual Fridays — there are times when leggings are perfectly acceptable as pants). But sometimes I think it’s fun to start the weekend with a little pizzazz. Bow’nt ya think so? (Ok, I’ll stop with the bow puns).
But seriously, I love a good skirt/tucked-in shirt combo. This also tricks people into thinking you’re wearing a dress (gotcha, world!). Today, I went for a basic all black look (me wearing black? Who would’ve thought…), with the pop of color… HELLO BOW!
Check out my outfit below.
Shirt (Kylee…bought at TJ MAXX), Skirt: Zara (if you guys didn’t already know this, Zara makes AMAZING high-quality skirts, for not too many $$$. More money for accessories!). Purse: Vintage leather, purchased in Italy.Sunnies: Ray Ban Aviator Nails: Essie, “Good as Gold”
Happy weekend, friends! Thanks for stopping by. xx sjb

14 DAYS OF FASHION: DAY 11.

I dedicate today’s post to my beautiful mother as it is her birthday! She has always inspired me with inventive style, and has always reminded me that good fashion doesn’t need to cost a fortune.

I’ve (obviously) done some shopping while in Paris, and this outfit is (almost) totally composed of my new purchases.

Today I wore:
Dress: Femmes je vous aime (made in France)
Jacket: Mango
Necklace: Zara
Shoes: Tamaris (Danish brand)

And… Bonne anniversaire, maman! Je t’aime!

DAY 10: “Black, white, and red in the rain.” #14daysoffashion #paris

I’m so inspired by the French look: Clean. Black. White. Red lip. These colors make me think of Paris.

It’s pouring here today, so I chose an outfit that would hopefully wear well in the rain.

Jacket: H&M
Necklace: Stella & Dot
Skirt: Banana Republic

14 DAYS OF FASHION: DAY 9.

Ok let me just get this out of the way. I LOVE PARIS. In other news, Les Bakers spent a wonderful day in the city, enjoying time in Luxembourg Gardens, gazing at the Notre Dam, faire du shopping, and eating too much cheese. I’ve so enjoyed speaking French consistently and spending time with my wonderful mom.

As for le fashion, I mixed a few funky prints in an attempt for a creative but most important, comfortable, outfit.

Today I wore...
Jeans: Target. Top: Ann Taylor Loft. Sweater: TJ Maxx (this gal is a maxxinista!). Necklace: Fox (borrowed from my fashionista mom). Shoes: Converse (the Parisians LOVE them-I’m home!).

A bien tot, mes amis.

14 Days of Fashion: DAY FIVE.

Today was packed with adventure. I biked around basically the entire city (more details later). Then after E came home, we took a drive to the north of Copenhagen and enjoyed some time by the water. Given this was my first time not on a bike since I’ve arrived in CPH, so I was able to wear my brand new Danish booties (HURRAH). To say I am in love with them, is probably an understatement. Purple leather and an oxford toe, oy, the beauty.

Until tomorrow, have a big day coming up… stay tuned! xx sjb

14 Days of Fashion: DAY FOUR: “Grab your purse! I mean, your bike.”

I’ve really been into the matte red lips lately. Well red accents, in general really (as evidenced by picture two). I never used to like red, but I find it’s the perfect pick-me-up for any outfit.

I keep noticing that the Danish gals are big on the “big shirt, tight pants” trend. So I try to follow suit in an attempt to blend. I went with an oversized chiffon button up from American Apparel, BDG skinny jeans from Urban Outfitters, booties from Bullboxer, and the matte lip from NYX cosmetics (I’m a huge fan of their stuff, and it’s a great deal!).

Although, of course the most important accessory to note is, the bike.

Friends that dine together, stay together.

I’m getting good at the biking thing. I’m actually finding it’s becoming easier to bike in heeled boots, that way, you’re more stable when you’re resting. Sounds weird, but also true. Today was also the first day that I biked to my own tourist-y destinations and then biked to meet E at her work. WIN for Sara.

After visiting the Ny Carlsberg Glyptotek, which has some beautiful 19th century art, I headed over to the Dansehallerne to take a dance class, taught by E. So exciting! We were reunited in a dance class (where we first met at age 11, actually). I felt like a true dancer again. It was nice. Her 90 minute class was fantastic (no surprise there). We did a lot of floor work, and a cool combination, set to a tune from my new favorite artist, Birdy (if you don’t know her yet, you should).

After class, we enjoyed dinner at Atlas Cafe, where we actually ate when I first arrived here. It’s so amazing though, I could eat there every day. Had some goat cheese and beet root burgers (pictured below). We learned that best friends that eat together, stay together. #cheesybutwelikeit

Will be posting today’s fashions, soon! xx sjb

14 Days of Fashion, day three.

Yet another simple look (expect more simplicity, as biking is tough in heels… I now know from experience). I went with a chambray shirt from American Eagle, scarf from ASOS, and straight leg black pants from Urban Outfitters. I finished up the outfit with burgundy Toms booties (these are AMAZINGLY comfy, by the way). And we can’t forget pairing fashion with the perfect accessory, FOOD. Cheers!

In today’s episode of A New Yorker goes to Copenhagen, I learned that these people are good at everything. My best friend, E, is a dancer here, and all of her friends are not only beautiful professional dancers, but also beautiful humans, who are talented and can sing and dance and do everything with elegance and grace.

Today I ventured off to watch E’s rehearsal at the Dansehallerne, which was the first feat, as I made it there totally on my own (okay, with a little help from Google Maps). This place was like an incredible loft in New York, but with creative and talented humans overflowing from it. There were tens of studios, filled with dancers rehearsing, pianos in every room for creative outlet, and just general mingling space (and over 4 floors of this). I feel like I became more inspired just by going in. After rehearsal was over, a few of us got to playing to the piano and singing songs we knew. It’s amazing how you can cross the bridges of varying cultures with music. People live truly in the moment here, and I feel lucky to be a part of it.

On that note, godnat! xx sjb

Episode two: A New Yorker Goes to Copenhagen (and keeps getting caught in the rain).

So for the next post for 14 Days of Fashion, I went with another casual outfit…with a small vintage upgrade (hello, fur cropped jacket!) I’ve also found that many Scandinavian women can pull off the messy bun look and it rocks (again, effortless is so in here). So I figured I’d go with that. As I am expecting to get caught in the rain every moment (que sera sera, right?) Check out the look below! xx sjb

Jacket (Thrift store), Jeans (Urban Outfitters), Tank (Target), Sunnies (Urban Outfitters), Watch (Fossil), Boots (Won Hundred).

All you need is love.

Well that, and a good cup of coffee.

So you guys. I learned a few new things today. First and foremost, when it rains, shoe shop.

1. It rains pretty much every time you decide to get on your bike (which is just about every hour). But that’s ok, because it’s somewhat cathartic to be riding through the rain. Rather cleansing.

2. The human body is capable of staying up for 35ish hours and having the BEST time ever (I really did it, who would’ve thought?).

3. The Danish actually make the best nachos ever (you are probably as surprised as I was). Today, E and I biked around, through rain and shine, and enjoyed nachos at good company at Cafe Norden, a super chic cafe in the city center. Then the rain started again, so we escaped indoors and did — what else — shoe shopping!

Am feeling so lucky, as I continue to have a blast. Am excited to see E’s dance classes tomorrow, and journey around on my bike by myself (will keep you informed on how that goes…).
